The goal marked Messi’s seventh goal in just his fourth outing for Inter Miami since he completed a move to the Major League Soccer (MLS) club last month.
Following Messi’s opener however, FC Dallas would hit two goals to go into halftime with a lead. A 63rd minute goal from Alan Velasco and an own goal from Robert Taylor added two more to the home side’s account which would be nullified courtesy of a Lionel Messi free kick in the 85th minute, taking the game to penalties.
Messi and Co would prevail from the spot kicks by hitting all five of their shots while Dallas could only find the net thrice.
Since Messi’s debut for the club, Inter Miami have won all four of their games across competitions. The David Beckham co-owned club however, still lies at the bottom of the Eastern Conference in the MLS 2023 standings with five wins of their 22 outings.
