Despite valiant efforts from the bowlers and skipper Nigar Sultana Joty with the bat in hand, Bangladesh women’s team suffered an agonising eight-run defeat against their Indian counterparts in the second T20I at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.

The defeat also saw the Tigresses concede the three-match series 2-0 with a game in hand. Chasing a mediocre 96-run target, Bangladesh were bundled out for 87 after playing out the entire 20 overs.

After losing the first game by seven wickets, Bangladesh bowlers made a strong statement, restricting India to 95 for eight, with Sultana Khatun scalping three for 21 in her four-over spell.

After the exchange, the Tigresses saw a top-order meltdown, collapsing to 30 for four in 7.5 overs. From there on, captain Joty staged a fightback, starring in a 34-run stand with Shorna Akter to spark life into the contest.

Joty was the only one holding the innings together for the Tigresses but as soon as her 55-ball 38 came to an end — when she was stumped off a Deepti Sharma delivery in the penultimate over — the hosts lost their way.

With four wickets in hand and 10 needed from the final over, the Tigresses hit the panic button as they lost four wickets in the final over.
