Bangladesh national team are set to depart for Sylhet on Wednesday for a three-day practice camp in the picturesque city but ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s availability for the camp was left to assumptions.
The Tigers’ all-rounder is expected to be with the team in England next month. Bangladesh will play a three-match ODI series against Ireland, part of the ICC ODI Super League, in England at Chelmsford on May 9, 12 and 14 respectively.
BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury informed that ‘as far as I know, Shakib will join the team in London.’
BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus was not certain about Shakib’s availability in the three-day camp either. “I don’t know [if he will be at the camp].
“The camp had been scheduled but I don’t know in an official basis whether he will be there,” he added.
Reports in local media suggest that Shakib is set to travel to USA. Asked if Shakib had asked for permission to skip camp, Jalal informed: “No he did not ask for a vacation so I don’t know.”
Bangladesh have been eying the conditions of Sylhet to replicate those they will face in England and the team are slated to travel to England from Dhaka after completion of the camp at Sylhet.
Despite Shakib’s imminent absence, the rest of the team are available for the Tamim Iqbal-led ODI side at Sylhet.
