Shakib set to join as practice match abandoned

Bangladesh were gearing up to play a warm-up against Ireland Wolves, but morning showers presented the bad news that the game could not be played. However, there was some good news from the Tigers’ perspective, with ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan set to join the side yesterday.

There was some hope of the match being played when the skies cleared for a while and groundstaff worked on the wet surface, but it was ultimately not possible.

The only warm-up fixture will not be rescheduled as Tamim Iqbal’s side will enjoy a rest day today before practice sessions at Fenner’s and Chelmsford on May 7 and 8 respectively.

Although Shakib had skipped the team’s training camp in Sylhet but was expected to link up with the team yesterday according to media manager Rabeed Imam. Shakib had not joined the side in England when this report was filed.

Weather concerns in Ireland had seen the ODI series, part of the ODI Super League, shifted to England and the teams will be hoping that weather does not ruin the start of the series on May 9.
