Rain halts play again after Tigers’ middle-order crumbles

Bangladesh are in deep trouble in the first ODI against Afghanistan at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday.

Sent in to bat, the Tigers are 144 for seven inside the 35th over after rain again halted play.

All-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz was the latest to get out following the dismissal of Afif Hossain. Both batters could not register double digits and fell prey to leg-before dismissals.

Afif failed to get a read on a Rashid Khan googly as he was trapped lbw for an eight-ball four, while Miraz departed in the same fashion but to pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi.

Earlier, star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan had a disappointing outing with the bat as he perished for a 35-ball 14, while the other veteran Mushfiqur Rahim went back after scoring one run to leave the Tigers five down for 112 after the end of the 24th over.

Shakib struggled to get going and he was put out of his misery when he chipped one to short cover off the bowling of Azmatullah Omarzai at the end of the 23rd over.

Mushfiqur followed suit as he misjudged a good-length delivery by Rashid Khan in the following over. The right-handed batter tried to pull it but could only manage to chop it onto the stumps on his third delivery.
