Play resumes with Tigers looking to regroup after two quick wickets

Bangladesh lost the wickets of in-form batter Najmul Hossain Shanto and opener Liton Das in quick succession as the Tigers were in need of a decent partnership before rain halted the first ODI against Afghanistan at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram today.

Bangladesh moved to 84 for three in 15.1 overs before the heavens opened and forced the umpires to call for the covers to be brought on. However, following a brief delay, the play has now resumed with no overs deducted.

Following the end of the first Powerplay, both Liton and Shanto departed in successive overs. Liton pulled a Mujeeb Ur Rahman delivery straight to the deep-backward square in the 11th over to walk back to the pavilion after a 35-ball 26, laced with two boundaries and a maximum.

Shanto’s one was also another soft dismissal as his sweep off Mohammad Nabi comfortably ended up in the hands of the fielder at short fine leg. He departed after a 16-ball 12.

Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy remained unbeaten on 4 and 8, respectively, as the Tigers look for a partnership to bounce back in the game.
