Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon admitted that he is still in the dark regarding where the upcoming Asia Cup will be played.

The Asia Cup is slated to begin on September 2, with Pakistan as the host. But tensions have risen with India having refused to make the trip across the border to play the tournament which has brought forward the possibility of a hybrid model or the tournament to be played in Sri Lanka or the UAE.

Papon revealed that he is yet to be informed about any decision regarding the matter but hinted at the aforementioned options as solutions tipping Sri Lanka to be a likely destination for the Asia Cup.

“The ACC hasn’t yet informed us about any decisions regarding the Asia Cup. But they will. It’s difficult to say where it will take place. As far as I know, there are two options. One is the hybrid model. The other one is that one country will host it.

In the case of the hybrid model, the tournament will take place in Pakistan and UAE and if a single country hosts it then it can take place in any country. But there is a high chance that it will be played in Sri Lanka,” he told the reporters on Thursday.

The BCB boss also revealed that Bangladesh had received the proposal to host it but the weather in September prompted them to pull away from hosting the tournament.

“Bangladesh had received the proposal as well. But there will be rain in Bangladesh during that time. And the format will be One-Day. If it was played in the T20 format then we could’ve taken a chance. I don’t think it’ll be possible to play One-Day matches during that time. That is why we said that it won’t be possible when they gave us the proposal,” he said.
