Bangladesh left-arm spinner Nahida Akter impressed with three wickets as the women in red and green reduced Sri Lanka to 152 for six before rain washed out the contest in the first ODI of the three-match series at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo on Saturday.

Having won the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat first and managed to bat for 36.4 overs.

The hosts were pegged back early when they lost Harshitha Samarawickrama in the very first delivery of the innings to Jahanara Alam.

Nahida got into the act inside the powerplay to remove the other opener Vishmi Gunaratne in the sixth over and came back right after the first 10 to dismiss Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapatthu for 47. It didn’t take long for Nahida to strike again as she sent back Nilakshi de Silva for her third scalp to reduce the hosts to 77 for four.

Leg-spinner Fahima Khatun and off-spinner Sultana Khatun picked up one wicket each.

The second match will take place at the same venue on Tuesday.
