Bangladesh are on top as Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Ebadot Hossain removed two set batters after Afghanistan stitched their first solid partnership in their first innings on the second day of the one-off Test in Mirpur today.

The visitors are 117 for six after 27 overs, trailing by 265 runs and needing 66 runs to avoid follow on.

From a precarious 51 for four, stumper-batter Afsar Zazai and Nasir Jamal combined to 65-run stand for the fifth wicket in quick time and was looking relatively comfortable in the middle until Miraz trapped Jamal (35) in front with a flighted delivery that went on to turn sharply.

Ebadot then dismissed Zazai (36) as the batter paid the price for being overly aggressive against the demand of the situation. Zazai’s mistimed pull shot was caught with ease by Shoriful Islam fielding in the deep.
