Bangladesh spin coach Rangana Herath conducted a spin camp with the national team where players from HP camp were also involved. The aim of the camp was to go through variations and tactics, the spin coach informed.
The Tigers went through the second day of camp to prepare for the Afghanistan Test. With Chandika Hathurusingha yet to arrive, Herath took the opportunity to work with spinners for white-ball and red-ball challenges.
When asked about the challenges Bangladesh will face in India in the upcoming World Cup, Herath felt that it would be a challenge due to the conditions and they were preparing with certain conditions in mind.
“I always think that when the condition is tough for the spinners, there will be challenge. That’s why we are going to be prepared before we go to the World Cup. This is part of the preparation. We worked on variation and tactic. If you don’t get assistance from the pitch, this is the thing we need to apply,” he said.
While countries such as Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have produced mystery spinners, rest of the world is bolstering options through leg-spinning options, something the Tigers lack. Herath said that players such Rishad Hossain will get more confidence from opportunities but his work went on with the finger spinners in terms of variations.
“There are many variations. If you name it. Cross seam. Carrom ball. We are working on them. We need to do these things very often.
“These guys are keen to learn. I am so happy. Once they go back to their club or team, they will continue these works,” the Sri Lankan legend said.
The Tigers will separate the practice camp according to white-ball and red-ball formats in the coming days ahead of Chandika’s arrival while Herath will take oversee another spin camp tomorrow.
