Hemp appointed HP coach

Former Bermuda international David Hemp has been appointed head coach of the High Performance Unit, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed through a press release on Tuesday.

The 52-year-old played 22 ODIs and two T20Is for Bermuda and had a prolific first-class career as a batter for Glamorgan, Free State and Warwickshire on the English county circuit.

Hemp, who worked as the Pakistan women’s team coach from 2020-2022 was appointed for two years till June, 2025.

Former West Indies assistant coach Toby Radford had taken the job as head coach of the HP unit in August 2020 on a one-year contract, but was unable to provide his services due to the pandemic

Sri Lankan Champaka Ramanayake had overseen as the head of HP unit during this period.

The BCB has also appointed Dr. David Scott as the HP Squad’s Sports Psychologist. Dr Scott is an expert on behavioural changes and performance enhancement in sport.

Meanwhile, Hemp’s first assignment will be the first phase of the HP training camp, which will begin from tomorrow at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

The first phase of the camp has been split into a further three parts, with physical screenings and fitness tests scheduled in Dhaka from May 24 to 31. The camp will then move to Rajshahi for a week-long training before shifting to Bogura for skills training.

The HP Squad will take part in the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Sri Lanka in July.
