Delhi Capitals holds on to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 144 runs

Delhi Capitals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 runs

Sunrisers Hyderabad appeared to control Delhi Capitals for a significant portion of the game. similar to the time Washington Sundar took three wickets in a single over.

In his four overs, Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave away almost nothing. Sunrisers’ pursuit of 145 was given a solid base by Mayank Agarwal.

When it came down to it, Washington and Marco Jansen were in the middle and Sunrisers needed 13 off the final over.

However, Mukesh Kumar showed serenity as he landed his yorkers and gave up only five runs, giving the Capitals a seven-run victory. The Delhi franchise successfully defended the IPL’s lowest total to date.

Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, spinners for the Capitals, held Sunrisers in check during the chase with combined figures of 8-0-43-3. Despite the fact that it was the Capitals’ second straight victory, they continued to rank last in the standings due to their net run rate of -0.961.

Sunrisers needed 51 runs off the final four overs thanks to the spinners for the Capitals, who did brilliantly. But when he challenged fellow South African Anrich Nortje, Heinrich Klaasen showed off his power-hitting ability.

Klaasen quickly advanced from being on 9 from 8 at the start of the 17th over to 31 off 18 by hitting two fours from Mukesh in the 18th over and sending Nortje for a six over deep midwicket.

Washington rocketed Nortje through deep third at the other end before playing a tumbling scoop off Mukesh. To reduce the equation to 13 off 6, he then blasted Nortje through deep midwicket. But in the final over, Washington was unable to get the big hits away.

Sunrisers began the game slowly after switching up their opening combination once more. Harry Brook found it difficult to measure the playing surface and failed in his attempt to scoop Nortje after 14 balls. Although Agarwal got off to a better start, Sunrisers only managed to go 36 for 1 in the powerplay.

Rahul Tripathi, who was substituted in for T Natarajan as the impact player, did everything he could to retrieve the ball, including running down the track, moving inside the line to play the scoop, and utilising the depth of the crease. While Agarwal occasionally hit a boundary, runs were hard to come by.

When Agarwal attempted to strike out against Axar, who he doesn’t have a favorable match-up against, their 38-run partnership for the second wicket came to an end.

Only 43 runs have been scored by Agarwal in the 54 balls he has faced from Axar in the IPL. He scored 49 runs off of 39 balls on Monday, which started a chain reaction.

Tripathi was caught behind by Ishant Sharma in the following over, and then Kuldeep tricked Abhishek Sharma before Aiden Markram was caught chopping on by Axar in the fifteenth over.

Sunrisers could only produce 58 in the middle overs (7-16) and lost four wickets. Capitals had amassed 64 for 3 in the corresponding phase.

Before Monday in IPL 2023, Washington has not taken a wicket in 13.4 overs. David Warner hit a four and a six in his first over against the Sunrisers, which ended up being 13 runs.

The Capitals then lost their momentum when Washington surged in the eighth inning of his subsequent over.

Warner tried to slog-sweep but only succeeded in hitting deep midwicket. A ball later, Sarfaraz Khan was top-edging a sweep to deep backward square leg for Washington.

Aman Khan then top-edged an attempted slog across the line to covers off the sixth delivery of the over. Capitals dropped from 57 for 2 to 62 for 5 in eight overs.

After Shaw was put on the bench, Phil Salt opened for the Capitals, but he was caught behind for something after nibbling at an outswinging length ball from Bhuvneshwar on his first ball of the game.

Warner made his first six of the year, but his swing was sluggish. One lofted extra cover drive for six was all Sarfaraz Khan had to brag about. But except from Mitchell Marsh, Manish Pandey, and Axar, the Capitals’ batting once again fell short.

Marsh began play by hitting four fours off Jansen’s opening over. He tickled one down to fine leg after flicking a length ball over midwicket. After going wide, Jansen was properly hammered via the cover point and additional covers.

However, Natarajan was able to catch Marsh off guard in the last over by getting one to swing into him off a length. The ball struck Marsh in the back pad, and the umpire upheld the batter’s lbw appeal; nevertheless, Sunrisers were able to secure their man through the DRS.

Capitals were in danger of falling far short on a surface that had enough in it for the spinners when Pandey and Axar joined forces in the eighth over.

However, the pair combined to add 69 off of 59 balls, giving them a semblance of a base for the finishing flourish. Both players scored 34, with Pandey scoring with 27 balls and Axar scoring with 34.

However, Axar was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar after being hit by a seaming ball that sank on the batter. In the subsequent over, Pandey was eliminated as Sunrisers took the wheel.

Capitals finished at 144 for 9, a score that didn’t appear like it would be enough at the midway point. They lost four wickets in the final 19 balls.
