Bangladesh started off the ACC Women’s Emerging Asia Cup with a bang beating Malaysia comprehensively by 97 runs at the Tin Kwong Road Recreational Ground in Hong Kong on Monday.

The Tigresses after electing to bat posted 148 for six and restricted Malaysia to 52 for eight.

Murshida Khatun top-scored with an unbeaten 57 off 44 balls as she struck seven fours, while Shorna Akter scored 20.

Rabeya Khan remained not out on 15 as Bangladesh went past 150.

Nur Dania Syuhada, Aisya Eleesa and Mahirah Izzati Ismail picked up two wickets each for Malaysia.

In reply, Malaysia were in a spot of bother right from the start, courtesy of some tight bowling from Bangladesh.

Leg-spinner Rabeya picked up two wickets conceding just seven runs from her three overs, while Marufa Akter, Sanjida Akter, Nahida Akter, and Sultana Khatun took a wicket each for Bangladesh.

Lata Mondol and her troops will take on Sri Lanka A in their next group game on June 14 at the same venue.
