Arsenal would get a goal back when Rob Holding’s well-placed shot in the 86th minute finally got the better of Ederson, who had nothing to do the whole match. Holding’s strike was only the second shot on target from the hapless Gunners who went on to lose the match 4-1, with their point difference cut to just 2. Worse for Arsenal still, as City have 2 games in hand over them.
No room for error
It’s now City’s title to lose while Arsenal will have to win all their remaining games to at least give them a proper fight till May 28- the last day of the season. The Gunners don’t really have much room for error as they face tough opponents in at least 3 of their last 5 matches. They next host a free-falling Chelsea at home on May 3, then travel to Newcastle (May 7). After that, they will have to face off against a stubborn Brighton side at the Emirates (May 14) before rounding off the season with an away match at Nottingham Forest (May 20) and a home match against Wolves on the last day of the season (May 28). Each of these matches is likely to have major implications in their season in case City slip up in the latter stages, which seeing their recent form looks highly unlikely.
Pep Guardiola’s outfit, meanwhile, have 7 games left to play in the league, 2 more than Arsenal which puts them in pole position to clinch their 3rd successive Premier League title. They next play Fulham at the Etihad on Sunday, then travel to West Ham (May 4). Next, they will host Leeds (May 6), travel to Everton (May 14) and Chelsea (May 21) then finish the league season with trips to Brighton (May 25) and Brentford (May 28).

In between their Premier League matches, City will also have to put in all their focus on the Champions League semifinal matches against Real Madrid on May 10 and 18. That’s a glut of fixtures to be played in just a month and the City players are likely to be knackered in spite of the depth they possess. This is exactly where Arsenal would hope that the other EPL teams will take advantage and try to peg City back. But the issue here is that the only fixtures that might hypothetically give City some trouble will be Chelsea and Brighton but the way City played against the Gunners on Wednesday night, betting against them looks to be a fool’s errand.
