Decision on Tamim, Taskin after Tuesday’s training

Bangladesh will wait till the last moment for two of their prime cricketers — Tamim Iqbal and Taskin Ahmed, who have injury concerns ahead of the one-off Test against Afghanistan starting from tomorrow.

Tamim’s back pain has resurfaced ahead of the series against Afghanistan and the left-hander batted at the nets with some discomfort during practice on Sunday. The Tigers’ ODI captain was, however, seen working with the physio and batted in the nets on Tuesday.

However, according to head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, the team management will assess Tamim’s condition after the day’s training session.

“I think he is going to train today and see how he feels. He trained the day before and he had some discomfort in certain discipline like batting and fielding. He is going to train today and we will assess him after that,” Hathurusingha told the media on Tuesday.

Taskin, on the other hand, seemed in a good shape on his way to recovery from a side strain that forced him out of action since the last white-ball series against Ireland at home.

The pacer has been gaining in bowling intensity gradually and according to Hathurusingha, the seamer has no injury concerns at the moment.

“Taskin actually trained really well during that rehab phase and I think physically he is in the best condition we all have seen. I think he will be ready to go if we decided to play him. There’s nothing stopping at the moment; there’s no injury but the bowling workload is the little bit of concern leading up to the period so again he will also assess after today’s training and make the call,” he said.
